North Carolina Zoo
Barbara Watkins is an experienced construction project manager currently working at North Carolina Zoo since April 2021. Prior to this role, Barbara served as an assistant project manager at Elford, Inc., where responsibilities included reviewing construction plans, managing subcontractor relations, and overseeing project closeout processes. Barbara also held operational and supervisory roles at the National Park Service and served as a biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, leading initiatives for habitat improvement. A diverse background in animal care and facility management at various organizations, including Smithsonian National Zoological Park and Discovery Creek Children's Museum, complements Barbara's extensive project management experience. Educational qualifications include a Master’s degree in Liberal Studies with a focus on Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an Associate’s degree in Construction Management from Columbus State Community College, and a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Biology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
