John MacLay

John Maclay is an accomplished academic and theatrical professional currently serving as an Assistant Professor of English at North Central College since June 2023. With a diverse career in theater, John Maclay has been the Chief Executive Officer of Sweet Jen Theatricals, LLC since January 2018, overseeing the works produced under the company. Maclay has also held significant roles at First Stage, including Resident Playwright, Associate Artistic Director, and Director of Artistic Development, from January 2004 to June 2024. In addition, John Maclay was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Carthage College from September 2009 to July 2020. Educationally, Maclay earned a Master's Degree in Creative Writing from Spalding University in November 2022 and a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre from Lawrence University, completed in 1994.
