Lead Acute Care Occupational Therapist at North Kansas City Hospital

Brent Walter has a diverse work experience in the field of occupational therapy. Brent started their career at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System as an Occupational Therapy Level II Student, where they focused on neurosurgery, orthopedics, and general medicine. Brent then moved on to the University of Kansas Health System, where they gained experience in acute care with a focus on oncology, surgery, transplantation, pulmonary, and gastrointestinal conditions.

Brent also had the opportunity to participate in a service learning trip to Guatemala, where they worked with underserved populations and combat occupational injustices. Brent planned and coordinated the trip, formulated the curriculum, and oversaw fundraising events.

In addition to their clinical experience, Brent has also been involved in research and educational roles. Brent worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where they conducted research on arthritis and assisted in expanding outreach programs. Brent also served as a Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where they researched methods of improving wheelchair propulsion for individuals with Multiple Sclerosis.

Currently, Brent is working at North Kansas City Hospital as a Lead Acute Care Occupational Therapist. In this role, they evaluate and treats patients in the acute care setting and serves as the lead over a team of occupational therapists. Brent is highly rated by their supervisor for their communication skills, productivity, teamwork, customer care, and engagement in professional responsibilities.
