Matthew Turkie

Matt Turkie is the current Superintendent at North Monterey County Unified School District, a position held since March 2024. Prior to this role, Turkie served as the District and School Support Liaison at the Monterey County Office of Education from July 2021 to March 2024, focusing on improving educational outcomes for marginalized student groups. Turkie's extensive experience in education includes serving as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction at Sacramento City Unified School District, Principal of the School of Engineering and Sciences, and multiple roles at Kit Carson Middle School. Turkie began a career in teaching mathematics, contributing to curriculum development and instructional coaching. Educational achievements include a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of California, Davis, and various degrees in education and mathematics from California State University-Sacramento and institutions in the United Kingdom.
