Ying Leong Foong (James)

Principal Well Integrity Engineer at North Oil Company Qatar

James Foong has worked in the oil and gas industry for several years. Ying Leong (James) began their career at Maersk Oil in 2010 as a Well Site Engineer, responsible for implementing drilling and workover programs in the Danish North Sea and Copenhagen. Ying Leong (James) also worked as an Offshore Drilling Engineer for ERD programs in the Al Shaheen field. In these roles, they handled daily and monthly operational reports, participated in risk assessments, and tracked costs and logistics.

In 2012, James transitioned to the role of Production Technologist at Maersk Oil, specializing in barrel chasing opportunities. Ying Leong (James) built and maintained a GAP model for Integrated Facility Management and conducted Well Performance analysis using PROSPER software.

In 2013, James took on a dual role as a Well Stimulation Engineer and Well Integrity Engineer at Maersk Oil, working in the Al-Shaheen field. Ying Leong (James) participated in well completion strategy and designed acid stimulation for long horizontal wells.

In 2017, James joined North Oil Company Qatar as a Senior Well Integrity Engineer. Ying Leong (James) reviewed well integrity processes during the transition from Maersk to Total and introduced Well Integrity Software systems. In 2020, they were promoted to Principal Well Integrity Engineer, where they became the focal point for well integrity related matters in the Al-Shaheen Field. Their responsibilities included liaising with various teams to ensure well operations were within the operating envelope and monitoring and tracking well integrity issues.

Ying Leong (James) Foong attended The University of Auckland from 2006 to 2009, where they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Mechanical Engineering.
