Jan T. Liu has a diverse work experience in various roles throughout their career. They have worked as a Research Associate at the Northern California Institute for Research and Education since 2008. Prior to this, they worked as a Health Consultant at Jan T. Liu, Consulting from 2006. From 2000 to 2005, they served as a Health Policy Analyst at the Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum, where they analyzed legislation and policies and conducted advocacy and capacity-building trainings. Before that, they worked as a Primary Care Policy Analyst at the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials from 1999 to 2000. They began their career as a Government Relations Intern at the American Public Health Association in 1998, where they were responsible for advocacy and policy analysis. In 1996 and 1997, they worked as a Research Specialist at the University of Illinois, Dept. of Pathology, studying cardiovascular diseases. Their earliest work experience dates back to 1995 when they worked as an English Instructor at the Shaanxi Business Management Institute, where they developed curriculum and taught English to a large number of students.
Jan T. Liu obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Michigan between the years 1991 and 1995. Later on, from 1997 to 1999, Liu pursued a Master of Health Science degree in International Health at The Johns Hopkins University.
