Margi Schiemann

Director, Community Affairs at Northern Illinois Gas Company

Margi Schiemann has held various roles in community affairs and community relations throughout their career. Margi first joined Nicor Gas in 1987, where they worked in different positions until becoming the Senior Manager of Community Relations in 2002. In this role, they supervised a team of regional directors and managed a budget of $2.5 million. In 2012, following the merger between Nicor Gas and AGL Resources, they became the Director of Corporate Community Relations & Economic Development, overseeing the integration of community relations activities across seven utilities. Schiemann then returned to Nicor Gas in 2013 as the Director of Infrastructure Programs & Support, leading community outreach efforts for a $2 billion infrastructure modernization program. In 2018, they transitioned to their current role as the Director of Community Affairs, where they are responsible for developing and executing the community affairs strategy for Nicor Gas. Additionally, they head the Community Affairs team, directs the communications strategy for major capital projects, and oversees the company's corporate giving and external workforce development programs. Prior to their time at Nicor Gas, Schiemann worked at Quaker Oats as a Benefits Communications Specialist.

Margi Schiemann earned a Bachelor's degree in Speech Communications and Journalism from Eastern Illinois University in 1985. Margi then went on to earn a Master's degree in Organizational Communications from Northern Illinois University from 1985 to 1987. Prior to that, they attended the University of Iowa in 1981-1982.
