Kathleen McMahon has a diverse work experience spanning over 16 years. Kathleen is currently serving as the Executive Vice President for Development and Communications at Northern Virginia Family Service, where they lead the communications team and drives private philanthropic fundraising efforts. Kathleen's experience also includes serving as the Deputy Director at Capital Partners for Education, where they were responsible for development and communications. Kathleen has earlier worked as a Program Development Specialist at Work, Achievement, Values & Education, Inc. (WAVE) and as a Program Associate at Points of Light Foundation. Additionally, Kathleen has experience as an English Teacher at St. Gabriel's College.

Kathleen McMahon obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Policy Studies, French, and Political Science from Syracuse University, where they attended from 1999 to 2003. Kathleen later pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in NGO/Nonprofit Leadership at the University of Pennsylvania, attending from 2008 to 2009. In terms of additional certifications, Kathleen McMahon obtained the "Dare to Lead Trained" certification from Dare to Lead™ in December 2020.
