Michael Thigpen, MBA, currently serves as a Re-Entry Advocate Mentor at Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center, a position held since September 2023. Previously, Michael held the role of Superintendent at the Lynchburg Regional Juvenile Detention Center from May 2021 to May 2023. Michael's extensive experience in higher education includes multiple leadership roles at Anderson University, including Chief Diversity Officer and Director of International and Multicultural Student Services, where focus was given to promoting diversity and inclusion among the student body. Michael was also the Lead Pastor at Celebration Church at Arrow Heights, providing leadership to a diverse congregation, and served as Director of Learning Partnership Development at Hobsons, where engagement with adult learners was emphasized. Michael holds an MBA and a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership, both from Anderson University.

Located in Alexandria, Virginia, the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center's (NVJDC) mission is to create through example, policy, programs, and environment, a safe and secure setting that advocates good mental and physical health. The center is a secure, pre- and post-disposition institution for adolescents who are being held for the juvenile courts of Northern Virginia. It serves the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church and Arlington County. The center is certified by the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). It is funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia through the DJJ and the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church and Arlington County.
