Prior to their time with Global Hotel Group, Callan held various operational management positions at Alliance Hospitality Management, Interstate Hotels Corporation, and Marriott International.

Michael Callan attended County College of Morris from 1983 to 1985, where they earned an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration, Management and Operations. Following this, they enrolled at Kean University in 1986 and completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Management and Operations in 1990.
