Matthew Paulsen has extensive experience in the banking and financial crimes field. Matthew is currently serving as the Head of Financial Crimes at Northwest Bank since 2023. Prior to this role, they worked at Flagstar Bank where they held the position of Financial Crimes Director from 2018 to 2023. During their time there, they also served as a BSA Compliance Officer from 2015 to 2018, and as a BSA/AML Audit Manager from 2013 to 2015. Before joining Flagstar Bank, Matthew worked as a Senior Risk Consultant at Crowe Horwath LLP from 2010 to 2013. Matthew began their career in 2003 at Comerica Bank, where they held various roles including Senior AML Investigator from 2008 to 2010, AML Analyst from 2006 to 2009, and Senior Customer Service Representative from 2003 to 2006.

Matthew Paulsen completed their Master's of Business Administration in Business Administration from Northwood University - DeVos Graduate School from 2008 to 2010. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from Oakland University from 2000 to 2005. In addition to their degrees, Matthew Paulsen holds certifications as a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist from ACAMS and as a Certified Fraud Examiner from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
