Nicole Tan

Journal Editor at Northwestern Undergraduate Law Journal

Nicole Tan has a diverse range of work experiences in the field of journalism and research. Nicole is currently an incoming intern at the South China Morning Post SCMP, starting in 2023. Prior to this, they served as a Research Fellow and Research Assistant at the Northwestern University Medill School's Local News Initiative from 2022 to the present. Additionally, they worked as a Research Assistant at the Deportation Research Clinic at the Northwestern Buffett Institute for Global Affairs starting in 2023.

Nicole also held positions at various publications, including being a Journal Editor at the Northwestern Undergraduate Law Journal from 2022 to present, a Social Media Editor and Print Managing Editor at The Daily Northwestern from 2022 to 2023, and an Investigative Reporter at ProPublica's Medill Investigative Lab in 2023.

Nicole gained further experience through internships, such as being a Reporting & Research Intern at Midstory in 2022, and an Intern at The Center for Independent Journalists from 2022 to 2023. Nicole's early experience in journalism began as a Junior Reporter at the South China Morning Post SCMP from 2020 to 2021.

Nicole Tan's education history begins in 2017 when they obtained their High School Diploma from Hong Kong International School. Nicole then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Legal Studies at Northwestern University, starting in 2021 and expected to graduate in 2025.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Nicole has also obtained certifications in Social Science and Behavioral Science Research as well as Responsible Conduct of Research for Undergraduate Students. These certifications were both obtained in February 2023 from the CITI Program.
