Val Buchanan

Val Buchanan serves as the Associate Director of Leadership Development and Community Engagement at Northwestern University since March 2016, focusing on supporting student activities and fostering community engagement through social justice education. Previously, Val held the position of Director for the Julian Year program at Episcopal Charities and Community Services, leading a service initiative for young adults. Val's extensive background includes serving as the Director of the Office of Community Engagement at Gordon College, promoting community service as an educational strategy, and involvement in various board roles at Lynn Arts, Family and Children's Service of Greater Lynn, and the Community Minority Cultural Center. Additional experience includes roles at Southwest Baptist University as Director of Discipleship and as Program Director at Longview YMCA, along with an early internship at Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles.
