DeMarcus Henry

Vice President, Board Member at NOVA Bulls Organization

DeMarcus grew up as a military dependent, with his mother serving as an enlisted member of the United States Army. He has lived in Colorado Springs, CO; Wurzburg, Germany; Enterprise, AL; and various cities in Alaska. He graduated from Bartlett High School in Anchorage, AK, where he excelled academically and was an active member of the school's basketball and track & field teams and chess, drama, and German club.

After high school, DeMarcus attended the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), where he studied criminal justice. While attending UAA, he worked for Campfire Boys and Girls Club, guiding and mentoring troubled youth. In doing so, DeMarcus discovered his love for working with children and his altruistic nature.

From there, DeMarcus began his long career as a civil servant by becoming an active-duty service member in the United States Air Force. DeMarcus graduated from Basic Military Training with the accolade of Honor Graduate. Upon completing basic training, he entered technical training as a Computer System Operator at Keesler AFB, MS, where he graduated with honors. DeMarcus moved quickly up the ranks and achieved the status of subject matter expert for various operating systems, applications, and security components. During his military career, DeMarcus engaged in rewarding work such as providing support for humanitarian and non-wartime missions (e.g., Haiti relief operations, combating western US forest fires, and rescuing survivors in major river floods).

While serving in the military, DeMarcus fulfilled his desire to help others and have a family of his own. DeMarcus met and married fellow Air Force member Alora Thompson. DeMarcus and Alora have been married for nineteen years. They have four adult children and a seven-year-old who keeps them on their toes. While raising his children, DeMarcus has coached youth baseball, soccer, and various recreational and Amateur Athletic Union basketball teams. Additionally, DeMarcus has a strong belief in education. He has obtained his Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Information Systems and has earned a double Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in Information Systems Management and Project Management. As a NOVA Bulls board member and mentor, DeMarcus hopes to instill and cultivate the love of basketball and a thirst for knowledge in others.
