Mai Der Y. has a diverse work experience history. Starting in 2014, they worked as a waitress at Chen's Gourmet until 2015. From 2015 to 2017, they held multiple roles at Corner Bakery, including Lead Trainer, Expo, Cashier, and Server. In 2017, they worked as a Caregiver at Always Best Care Senior Services and as a Captioning Assistant at CapTel Phone. From 2018 to 2022, they were a Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens. In 2022, they served as a Building Manager at the Hmong American Women's Association and then as a Clinical Care Coordinator at Novir. Currently, they work as a Patient Access Service Representative at Froedtert Health.

Mai Der Y. completed their high school education at Brookfield East High School from 2012 to 2016. They then pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Public Health at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, starting at an unknown year and expected to graduate in 2023. In addition to their formal education, Mai Der Y. obtained a certification in IRB-Biomedical and Social & Behavioral Combined Researchers from the CITI Program in December 2022.
