Aya Batrawy serves as the Gulf Bureau Chief for NPR, focusing on coverage of the Middle East since November 2022. Prior experience includes a decade at the Associated Press, where roles encompassed Gulf-based Mideast Correspondent, Middle East Correspondent, and Middle East Editor, covering significant events such as the Arab Spring and the Egyptian revolution. Additional positions include Senior Correspondent for the German Press Agency, producer for The New Arab Debates, and adjunct journalism professor at the American University in Cairo. Batrawy has contributed to various media outlets, including PRI and National Public Radio, and holds a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism and History from the University of South Florida, as well as an M.A. in Global Media Studies from SOAS University of London.
