Chris Nelson

Chris Nelson is NPR's Vice President of Technology Operations. In this role, Nelson provides innovative technology leadership and drives collaboration between NPR's editorial, production and technical staff.

During his time at NPR, Nelson has introduced new technologies and workflows to support innovation in collaboration with content creators and created consistent technical standards across the organization's production units. He has developed work plans and strategies for Disaster Recovery, designed and implemented advanced technical training, and established new protocols for staff recruitment and development in line with NPR's best-in-class technology and content operation.

He has overseen the Audio Engineering and Newsflex teams, has managed technical operations for multiple seasons of Elections coverage and has been a technical director for NPR's live and recorded music broadcasts. He originally joined NPR as an audio engineer in 2000.

Nelson graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Recording Industry (Audio Engineering) from Middle Tennessee State University in 1999, where he also taught. Outside of his work at NPR, he has produced documentaries for public radio and the National Hockey League. He also served as an audio specialist for the UN's International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, based in Tanzania.
