Vickie Walton-James

Vickie Walton-James is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience in news management and editorial roles. Currently serving as the Managing Editor/News at NPR since July 2008, Vickie oversees daily news coverage and digital content while ensuring quality across various programs, including Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Prior to joining NPR, Vickie held several prominent positions, including Chief National Editor and Deputy National Editor, directing national news coverage and managing teams of correspondents and editors. Vickie's career began at The Kansas City Star, progressing through various roles, and included significant contributions as the Senior Washington Editor at Tribune Publishing Company and Washington Bureau Chief at the Chicago Tribune. Vickie holds a B.S. in Journalism from The University of Kansas and has completed fellowships at the Sulzberger Executive Leadership Program at Columbia Journalism School and the International Reporting Project at Johns Hopkins University.
