Nueces Electric Cooperative
Nueces Electric Cooperative (NEC) is a customer-owned, electric cooperative Founded in 1938. As an innovator in the electric industry, Nueces Electric Cooperative is the only deregulated cooperative in the state of Texas and only one of a handful in the nation. Additionally, NEC was the first to acquire Navy contracts and currently owns and maintains the power lines for both Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and Naval Air Station Kingsville. Today NEC has built and maintains over 3,200 miles of power lines and serves over 19,000 electric meters in our transmission and distribution territory of eight South Texas counties surrounding the beautiful Texas Gulf Coast. As the parent company for NEC Co-op Energy (www.neccoopenergy.com), the co-op's competitive retail electric provider, we take pride in being a home-grown business who genuinely cares about those we serve. After all, that's what being a member-owned cooperative is all about and what separates us for Investor owned utilities (IOUs). Because we are a non-profit, our margins go back to our members in the form of annual bill credits, not into our pockets. Nueces Electric Cooperative is has come a long way since 1938, and we aren't done yet.
