Paula Goldrup

Site Engagement Associate, Indigenous Engagement - Northwest at NWMO

Paula Goldrup has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Paula currently works as a Site Engagement Associate, Indigenous Engagement - Northwest at the Nuclear Waste Management Organization since December 2021. Prior to this, they were a Grade 5 PYP Classroom Teacher at the American International School of Guangzhou from July 2018 to June 2021. Paula also served as a Grade 5 Classroom Teacher at Promontory Elementary School from April 2018 to June 2018.

Before moving to China, Paula worked with the Canadian Red Cross from November 2016 to December 2017. Paula started as a Project Officer, Alberta Fire Recovery Operation and later became a Community Liaison Officer, Southern Alberta Flood Recovery Operation. During their time at the Red Cross, they facilitated the granting process and maintained positive relationships with partners. Paula also provided organizational support to the Refugee Resettlement Response in Alberta and British Columbia.

Paula's teaching career began in 1999 with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, where they worked as a Middle School Teacher for grade 6. Paula actively collaborated in the creation of a pilot program and mentored beginning teachers. From there, they taught at various international schools, including Al-Bayan Bilingual School in Kuwait, Thai-Chinese International School in Thailand, Jakarta Intercultural School in Indonesia, and Cairo American College in Egypt. In these roles, they taught a range of subjects and implemented innovative teaching methods. Paula also took on leadership responsibilities such as spearheading department transitions and co-chairing curriculum development committees.

Paula Goldrup holds a Master's Degree in Intercultural and International Communication from Royal Roads University, which they completed between 2010 and 2012. Paula also earned a BEd in Junior/Intermediate history from Lakehead University in 1996. Prior to that, they obtained an Honours BA in Canadian Studies/History from Brock University, graduating in 1995. Paula is currently pursuing a Certificate in Adult Learning from the University of Calgary, a program they started in 2015 and is expected to complete in 2022. Additionally, they hold an ESL, Level 1 certification from the Ontario College of Teachers, although the exact date of attainment is not provided.
