Christopher Black

Director, Research Computing at The New York Genome Center

Christopher Black has extensive experience in the field of research computing and high-performance computing. Christopher worked at the New York Genome Center from 2014 to present as the Director of Research Computing, where they led a team responsible for large computing and data storage environments. Prior to that, they worked as the Assistant Director of High Performance Computing at the New York Genome Center from 2014 to 2016. Before joining the New York Genome Center, they served as a UNIX System Administrator at Roche NimbleGen Inc. from 2008 to 2014. Christopher also gained experience at EraGen Biosciences, where they held roles as a Senior Analyst from 2004 to 2008, and a System Administrator from 2000 to 2004. Christopher began their career as a Programmer/Sysadmin at the University of Florida in 1996 and provided user support for agricultural sciences and economics.

Christopher Black earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Edgewood College from 2008 to 2012. Prior to that, they studied Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Florida from 1994 to 1996, although they did not earn a degree from that institution. In addition to their formal education, Christopher obtained certifications in various areas of Google Cloud Platform through Coursera in December 2019. These certifications include "Essential Google Cloud Infrastructure: Core Services," "Google Cloud Platform Fundamentals: Core Infrastructure," and "Security in Google Cloud Platform Specialization."
