Motoko Rich

Motoko Rich is a seasoned journalist currently serving as the Tokyo Bureau Chief for The New York Times since June 2012, where coverage focuses on Japan and the Koreas, addressing topics such as politics, national security, gender relations, and culture. Prior to this role, Motoko held various positions at The New York Times, including National Education Reporter and Staff Reporter in economics and book publishing from 2006 to 2012, as well as in house and home from 2003 to 2006. Earlier experience includes serving as a staff reporter for The Wall Street Journal in both Atlanta, GA, and New York, NY, from 1997 to 2003, and for the Financial Times in London, England, from 1994 to 1997. Academic credentials include an M.A. Cantab in English from Cambridge University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Yale University.
