Scott Dodd is a senior staff editor at The New York Times. Scott was previously the executive editor at Grist, a Seattle-based nonprofit outlet, where they led the newsroom and pivoted the publication from blogging to an emphasis on reported features. This earned Grist its first National Magazine Award nomination. Prior to that, Dodd was at Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), where they edited stories and managed the website for OnEarth Magazine, an award-winning quarterly science magazine. Scott was later promoted to NRDC editorial director, expanding online content and social media teams. Scott's work was praised by Columbia Journalism Review as "bang-up investigative reporting." Dodd began their career as a general assignment reporter at The Charlotte Observer, where they specialized in rewrite and news-driven enterprise. Scott won awards for sports, business, investigations and breaking news. Scott also contributed to coverage of Hurricane Katrina that won a Pulitzer Prize for public service. Scott has been named the city's best newspaper reporter by local alt-weekly, which said that "when The Charlotte Observer wants to make a good story a great one, it sends out Scott Dodd."

Scott Dodd has been an adjunct professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, where they have also earned an MA in Science, Health, and Environmental Journalism. Scott holds a BA in Journalism from Penn State University, where they minored in history.
