Umi Syam is a Graphics/Multimedia Editor at The New York Times since October 2016, collaborating with various teams to enhance visual journalism across platforms. Umi served as an Adjunct Professor at Parsons School of Design, teaching courses on web development and data visualization, and has held multiple academic roles including departmental tutor and teaching assistant in the Design & Technology program. Prior experience includes a freelance UX and web design role at Umi Kitchen, a User Experience Evangelist position at Microsoft, and freelance design work managing creative projects. Umi holds an MFA in Design & Technology from Parsons School of Design and a B.Sc. in Informatics Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung.
