William Bardeen

SVP & Chief Strategy Officer at The New York Times

William Bardeen was named chief strategy officer at The New York Times Company in November 2018. In this role, Mr. Bardeen oversees all of the Company’s strategy, business development, mergers and acquisitions, investing and financial planning and analysis activities.

Prior to the position, Mr. Bardeen was senior vice president, strategy & development for The New York Times Company since April 2013. He joined the Company in 2004 and has served in several corporate development, business development and strategic planning roles for three chief executives. During that time, he helped transform the Company from a traditional U.S. media conglomerate into a global digital subscription service, unified by the journalism and brand of The New York Times.

Previously, Mr. Bardeen was a management consultant and worked with early stage companies in the media and communications industry. He began his career at the management consultancy A.T. Kearney in 1996.

Mr. Bardeen serves as a board observer for Automattic (WordPress.com) and betaworks. He is also a CFA charterholder.

Mr. Bardeen graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1996 with an AB degree in Environmental Science and Public Policy. He received a M.B.A. in Finance and Economics from Columbia Business School in 2004.
