Debra Furr-Holden

Dean, School of Global Public Health at New York University

Debra Furr-Holden currently serves as Professor and Dean at the NYU School of Global Public Health, leading efforts in public health advancement with a focus on global health initiatives. Previously, Furr-Holden held the position of Associate Dean for Public Health Integration at Michigan State University, where strategic oversight of public health programs was provided. As a C.S. Mott Endowed Professor of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University from 2007 to 2016, Furr-Holden oversaw an independent research portfolio addressing drug and alcohol dependence, violence prevention, and environmental health strategies, while also directing a National Institute on Drug Abuse training program. Earlier experience includes serving as Director of Prevention Services for Baltimore Substance Abuse Systems, Inc. Furr-Holden earned a Ph.D. in Drug and Alcohol Dependence Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, following a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences and Public Health from The Johns Hopkins University.
