Diana L. Arpino

Diana Leilani Arpino is Vice Provost at NYU, a quantitative sociologist who employs targeted strategy, data-driven methodologies, and inclusive diplomacy in her academic initiatives. With oversight of enterprise-wide academic program review, non-credit academic offerings, and doctoral affairs sponsored by the Provost, Dr. Arpino supports the Provost's mission to grow the academic caliber of NYU. She oversees the Office of Academic Program Review and Assessment (OAPRA), institutional accreditation, and authorization. She works closely with other Vice Provosts and colleagues to sponsor academic technology initiatives that improve how data is used to support schools, faculty, and students in achieving their goals.

Dr. Arpino has been with NYU since 2012, where she most recently served as Associate Vice Provost. She merged the Office of Academic Assessment and the Office of Academic Program Review, replacing a manual, paper-based system of program review with a modern, digital system to enhance business tracking capabilities to support school goals. Arpino established the first university-wide system of academic assessment of student learning, achieving annual assessment submission rates of 95% or higher. She has provided strategic leadership across the global network on important initiatives, including the launch of the NYU Long Island School of Medicine, expansion into the graduate space at NYU Abu Dhabi, and the relocation of the NYU Shanghai campus.

Prior to joining NYU, Arpino served as Assistant Professor of Sociology at Rutgers University Newark. While a faculty member, her research examined racial and ethnic inequality, including discrimination in housing and labor markets, and consequences of long-term patterns of stable neighborhood integration in metropolitan neighborhoods. Her work is published in various manuscript chapters and journals, including Social Problems and the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. Arpino has consulted as a social scientist with a range of organizations, including the Office of Population Research at Princeton University, the Center for Court Innovation, the Open Society Institute for South Africa, and the Criminal Justice Research Center at the Ohio State University.

Arpino serves as Treasurer of the board of the Amagansett East Association. As a first generation college graduate and beneficiary of generous mentorship, she is committed to working to positively impact educational outcomes for future generations.

Dr. Arpino earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from the Ohio State University and her B.A. and M.A. in Sociology from Baylor University.
