After receiving her doctorate degree in audiology, Gale Drukier served as a tenured professor in the field of audiology at Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey) for 17 years. When she retired from teaching, she joined her family's business, BD Hotels, where she managed properties on the Upper West Side of Manhattan for more than 12 years. In addition to the NYU Board of Trustees, Drukier is a member of the Dean’s Council for the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Much of Drukier’s philanthropy centers on university programs, medicine, and the arts.

Founded in 1831, NYU is one of the world’s foremost research universities and is a member of the selective Association of American Universities. The first Global Network University, NYU has degree-granting university campuses in New York and Abu Dhabi, and has announced a third in Shanghai; has a dozen other global academic sites, including London, Paris, Florence, Tel Aviv, Buenos Aires, and Accra; and sends more students to study abroad than any other U.S. college or university.
