Joy Bergelson

Joy Bergelson serves as a Consultant to the President for Ecology and Evolution at the Simons Foundation since February 2024. Currently, Joy holds multiple roles at New York University, including Chair of the Department of Biology, Silver Professor, and Dorothy Schiff Professor of Genomics, positions maintained since July 2021. Previously, Joy was a Distinguished Service Professor at The University of Chicago from July 1994 until July 2024, where roles included James D Watson Professor, Professor, and Louis Block Professor, with a term as Chair of the Department of Ecology and Evolution from July 2006 to June 2021. Joy Bergelson holds a PhD in Zoology with a focus on ecology from the University of Washington, an MPhil in Ecology from the University of York, and a BSc in Biology from Brown University.
