Brian Weese has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. Brian has held various leadership roles in different industries, including bookstores, publishing, and non-profit organizations. Brian began their career as a Protocol Officer at the Louisiana World Exposition in 1984. Brian then worked as a Second Secretary at the American Embassy in Brasilia for a brief period. Following this, they joined the US Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer.
In 1985, Weese became the President of Encore Books, a chain of 105 bookstores. During their tenure, they successfully oversaw the expansion of the business, increasing the number of stores and staff significantly. Brian then transitioned to the position of Vice President at the Oak Hall Industries, LP in 2012.
Weese also has extensive experience in the publishing industry. Brian served as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Island Press from 2006 to 2012. In this role, they supervised the publicity and marketing team, as well as managed domestic and international field sales. Brian was responsible for promoting books on the environment, ecosystems studies, and architecture.
Throughout their career, Weese has also held various board positions, including being a Board Member at the American Booksellers Association and the Maryland Historical Society.

Brian Weese completed their Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) in Latin American Studies at Georgetown University from 1974 to 1978. Brian then pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in International Affairs from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) from 1982 to 1984.
