Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation

Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation (OPRF) is the city-wide champion for quality parks and recreation opportunities for everyone in Oakland. Oakland is a city of strivers and believers at the center of a dynamic and fast-growing region. Now more than ever, Oakland needs high quality parks and recreation programs where Oaklanders can gather, play, reflect, relax, create and grow strong. With a network of business leaders, grassroots community groups, city agencies, elected officials, and a committed board and staff, OPRF brings people and resources together to sustain and grow a thriving, equitable, and resilient system of parks and recreation for Oakland. Spurred into action by the dramatic decline in public funding for parks in the wake of Prop 13, Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation continues to build on 40 years of success with three key strategies: *Supporting the people who make great parks happen. We provide fiscal sponsorship and support to 100+ organizations on the ground in parks across the city. These grassroots groups are the heart, soul and muscle of Oakland’s most dynamic spaces and programs, supporting community life with volunteerism and stewardship, as well as diverse arts, culture, nature, sports and recreation programs. *Promoting philanthropy and civic leadership for parks and play. We manage funds and targeted gifts for people who want to make a major impact -- from teaching every kid to swim to building skateparks and playgrounds. *Connecting the dots with special projects. We take on special projects and form strategic partnerships to tackle specific challenges to the vision of Oakland as a welcoming city with world-class parks and recreation programs. Recent special projects include our biennial park survey and advocacy, pilot public benefit use and seeding major capital projects.
