Sara Okhuijsen has a diverse work experience that spans various industries and roles. Sara is currently working as a Researcher in Genomic Privacy at Erasmus MC. Prior to this, they were the Head of R&D & Co-Founder at OASYS NOW, where they utilized their academic and bioinformatics expertise to develop a social-impact, legal-tech, and cybersecurity start-up focused on precision medicine and genetic data ownership.
Sara has also served as a Member of the Advisory Board at S.V.N.B. Hooke, where they provided advice and guidance to the current board members. Additionally, they worked as a Computational Biologist at the Department of Molecular Genetics, Aging Lab at Erasmus MC, where they conducted meta-analysis of RNA-seq Differential Expression in aging datasets and performed NGS data analysis, quality control, and downstream analysis.
Earlier in their career, Sara worked as a Student Assistant for Quality Assurance at TU Delft, implementing EvaTool, an education evaluation platform. Sara also served as a Member of the Faculty Student Council (FSC) at TU Delft. Furthermore, they were a Commissioner of Education and a member of the Board of Studies at S.V.N.B. Hooke, responsible for evaluating courses and improving the curriculum and schedule of the Nanobiology degree.
Prior to their academic and professional roles, Sara worked as an Exam Trainer at Erasmus Education and as a Tutor as a self-employed individual.
Through their diverse and extensive work experience, Sara has accumulated expertise in genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, education evaluation, and organizational advisory roles.
Sara Okhuijsen's education history is as follows:
Sara started their education at Wolfert van Borselen Tweetalig, where they obtained a Bilingual VWO degree in Applied Sciences and Art & Design from 2010 to 2016.
After completing their secondary education, Sara pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Nanobiology (Joint Degree) from both Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Sara attended Delft University of Technology from 2016 to 2021 and simultaneously studied at Erasmus University Rotterdam from 2016 to 2020, obtaining their Bachelor of Science in Nanobiology.
To enhance their skills and knowledge, Sara obtained additional certifications. In June 2021, they completed the Multiomics Data Integration using R MGC Course offered by the Research School Medical Genetics Center. Additionally, in January 2021, they achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Nanobiology (Joint Degree) from Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Before pursuing higher education, Sara also obtained an English A: Language and literature - Higher level certification from the International Baccalaureate in September 2016.
Currently, Sara is furthering their education and pursuing a Master of Science degree in Nanobiology (Joint Degree) from both Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Sara started their master's program in 2021 and is expected to complete it in 2023.
