Josh L Espinoza

Josh L Espinoza serves as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Oath Inc. and Co-Founder and Bioinformatics & Engineering Advisor at Ocean BioMetrics while continuing a long-term affiliation as a Visiting Scientist with the J. Craig Venter Institute. With a robust background in bioinformatics, including leadership roles such as Head of Bioinformatics at NewAtlantis Labs, Espinoza has contributed to pivotal projects in (meta)genomics, artificial intelligence, and microbial ecology analytics for agricultural and conservation applications. Espinoza holds a PhD in Biotechnology from Durban University of Technology and the J. Craig Venter Institute, alongside a Master’s in Bioinformatics from UC Santa Cruz and a Bachelor’s in Cellular and Molecular Biology from San Diego State University. An accomplished researcher, Espinoza has multiple publications in the field and a focus on advancing genomics databases and biodiversity monitoring.
