Marvin Ward has over 20 years of work experience in the field of information security. Marvin started their career in 1998 as a Hardware Planning Analyst for EDS, where they facilitated the hardware, software, and infrastructure needs of the EOSDIS project at NASA Goddard. In 1999, they joined the Newspaper Association of America as the Manager of Network Operations, responsible for overseeing the network operations team and managing various servers, firewalls, and routers.
In 2009, Marvin became a Security Engineer IV at Avaya Government Solutions, where they assisted the Senior Information Security Engineer with the monitoring, maintenance, and implementation of the Congressional Budget Office's information security infrastructure. Marvin also conducted vulnerability scans and penetration testing, as well as managed the antivirus and endpoint protection solutions.
From 2011 to 2013, Marvin worked as a Senior Security Engineer at General Dynamics Information Technology, providing support to the Information Systems Security Officer of the United States Coast Guard. Marvin performed certification and accreditation tasks for multiple systems within the USCG Enterprise Information Systems Infrastructure, collaborating with engineering staff to address security controls.
Since 2013, Marvin has been serving as a Senior Information Assurance Engineer at OBXtek. In this role, they are responsible for the Assessment and Authorization activities for the Department of State Consular Affair's automated information systems. Marvin assists and advises system and application developers in designing and developing secure systems architecture according to NIST and Department Foreign Affairs Manual guidelines.
Marvin Ward holds several certifications including CISSP, CAP, Security Plus, MCSE, and CCSE.
Marvin Ward holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Economics, which they obtained from George Mason University between 1984 and 1986. Prior to that, they studied at Northern Virginia Community College, earning an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Business from 1979 to 1983.
Marvin has also obtained several certifications in the field of technology and security. In 1999, they achieved the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certification and the MCP + Internet certification. These were followed by the MCSE Windows NT 4.0 certification in the same year. Continuing their education, Marvin obtained the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from (ISC)² in July 2006.
Later in January 2006, they acquired the Security+ certification from CompTIA and the MCSE Windows 2000 certification from Microsoft. More recently, in February 2014, Marvin earned the Certified Authorization Professional (CAP) certification through (ISC)².
