Prior to these roles, they worked at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center as a Nursing Director, overseeing various units and managing compliance and quality. Additionally, Brenda has a background in process improvement, having worked as a Regional Six Sigma Black Belt at Providence Health & Services, where they led initiatives to improve processes and train healthcare staff in Lean Methodology.
Brenda Sharkey has a diverse education history. Brenda pursued their Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Business Administration and Management, General from the University of Saint Francis in Joliet, IL. Before that, they completed their Master's Degree in Nursing Science from King's College London. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse from Saint Mary's College of California. Starting in 1984, Brenda earned a Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education/Fitness from Montana State University-Bozeman.
In addition to their academic accomplishments, Brenda Sharkey holds the certification of Nurse Executive, Advanced from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, which they obtained in February 2015.

OBHMC provides its community a 24/7 Emergency Department staffed by trained emergency medicine physicians. As a Critical Access Hospital, OBHMC is licensed for 25 inpatient beds and boasts an active "Swing Bed" program - where patients needing a lower acuity care setting can rehabilitate (if medical necessity is met) from surgeries, hospital stays and other healthcare events. The Ocean Beach Medical Group (OBMG) is comprised of 3 physicians (Internal Medicine, General Surgery, and Family Practice), 3 Nurse Practitioners and 3 Physician Assistants. OBMG provides care at 3 sites (Ilwaco, Naselle, and Ocean Park, WA). A Providence Medical Group Cardiologist sees patients one day a week at the Ilwaco Clinic site. OBMG is here to provide high quality primary care and specialty services. OBHMC provides a full service radiology (CT-128, X-Ray, Ultrasound, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Bone Densitometry and 3D Digital Mammography) and laboratory department. OBHMC recently opened a new Physical Therapy gym that is staffed/led by 4 Doctors of Physical Therapy. OBHMC also provides infusion services, cardiac and pulmonary rehab programs and PFT testing - and is otherwise here to provide its community with high quality inpatient and outpatient health care services. OBMHC is a proud member of the AHA, National Association of Rural Health Clinics, WSHA and the Washington Rural Health Collaborative - a group of like-minded facilities that collaborate to improve the services and quality of care provided at its member hospitals. OBHMC was recently awarded a Silver Plus certificate in Stroke Care (for 2019 - 2020 award pending).
