Chris Howard

Expedition Director at OceanGate

Chris Howard has a wealth of experience in the maritime industry. Chris began their career in 1996 as a Captain and Research Naturalist for the Pacific Whale Foundation. In 1998, they moved to Allen Marine Tours, where they served as an Engineer/Deckhand. In 2000, they returned to Allen Marine Tours as a Captain of the M/V St. Eugene. In 2011, they became Operations Manager for Alpine Adventures Outdoor Recreation. In 2013, they joined Arrow Launch Service as a Vessel Operator/Seattle Port Captain. In 2014, they began working for King County Water Taxi as an On-Call Deckhand. Finally, in 2016, they became the Expedition Director at OceanGate, Inc.

Chris Howard completed their Bachelor of Science in Biology with an emphasis in Marine Science at San Diego State University from 1991 to 1994. Prior to that, they attended California State University, Stanislaus from 1988 to 1991, studying Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography. In 1995, they obtained a PADI Rescue Diver Certification from PADI. In 2000, they obtained a USCG MMC 100 ton Near Coastal Masters License, with AB Unlimited, Lifeboatman, Basic Firefighting, Sail and Towing Assist Endorsements from the United States Coast Guard. Most recently, in August 2019, they obtained a CPR/AED/First Aid certification from the American Red Cross.
