Liz MacPherson

Liz MacPherson is an accomplished professional currently serving as the Deputy Privacy Commissioner at the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand since April 2020, with responsibilities encompassing leadership in policy, investigations, and compliance functions. Additionally, Liz holds the position of COO and Assistant Commissioner at Hāpai Public and has been the President and Chair of the Board at Stats NZ. Previously, Liz served as Chief Executive and Government Statistician at Stats NZ, becoming NZ’s first Government Chief Data Steward. Prior experience includes various leadership roles at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the Ministry of Economic Development, where significant contributions were made to organizational restructuring and management. Liz began a career in the public sector with the Department of Labour, eventually leading policy teams focused on labour market analysis. Academic credentials include a Master of Arts in English with First Class Honours and a Bachelor of Arts with double majors in Geography and English from the University of Auckland.
