Sumanta Ganguly completed a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) with a specialization in Economics and Accountancy from Calcutta University in Kolkata between 1992 and 1995. Following this, between 1995 and 1998, Sumanta pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Planning & Entrepreneurship with a focus on Marketing and Finance at the Indian Institute of Planning and Management.
