Morgan McCaw has a diverse work experience in the field of genetics and research. They began their career at the University of Missouri-Columbia as a Laboratory Technician, where they evaluated transmission rates of chromosomes and trained undergraduates in Fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH). Later, they joined Iowa State University as a Postdoctoral Researcher, focusing on gene editing and genetic transformation in Fast-Flowering Mini-Maize. Their work involved developing a line of FFMM amenable to genetic transformation using CRISPR/Cas9 technology and collaborating with Corteva Agrisciences on the transformation of maize by developmental genes. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Research Scientist at Ohalo Genetics.
Morgan McCaw completed a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology/Biological Sciences from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where they studied from 2004 to 2009. They then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biological Sciences with a focus on Maize Minichromosomes and Haploid Induction at the same institution, from 2011 to 2017.
