Gerald Pao

Gerald Pao is an accomplished researcher currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology since March 2023. With extensive experience from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, where Pao held positions including Visiting Scientist and Senior Research Associate, significant contributions were made in regenerative medicine, particularly in studying the Axolotl salamander's healing capabilities. Pao also held various roles at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, focusing on applied mathematics and data science in relation to climate and biological systems. Previous positions include Visiting Scientist at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Research Fellow at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and Consultant at NEC X Inc., where expertise in high-performance computing and gene therapy was demonstrated. Pao earned a PhD in Molecular Biology from UC San Diego and holds a Bachelor of Science from the same institution.
