Ashley Cheyney

Ashley Cheyney, PhD has a diverse work experience in the field of research and education. Ashley started their career as a Research Technician at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in 2012, where they gained skills in various laboratory techniques and procedures. In 2013, they transitioned into a PHD Candidate role at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, focusing on maternal obesity and fetal neuronal development during pregnancy. Ashley conducted research that could potentially lead to a better understanding of neurodevelopmental diseases.

After completing their PhD, Ashley continued their work at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center as a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow, where they gained experience in teaching physiology, pharmacology, and anatomy to medical and physician assistant programs. Ashley also took on the role of Assistant Professor, coordinating courses and programs in cardiovascular, reproductive, and endocrine physiology and pharmacology. In September 2022, they became the Assistant Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of Physiology, providing student support and creating policies to ensure student success.

In 2020, Ashley joined the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation again, this time as an Assistant Staff Scientist, and later as the Assistant Director of Training Programs and Educational Outreach. In their current role, they oversee training programs and educational outreach efforts.

Ashley Cheyney, PhD, has a strong educational background with a focus on physiology, biology, and zoology. Ashley obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Physiology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, where they studied from 2013 to 2020. Prior to their doctoral studies, Ashley completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology, General from Oklahoma Wesleyan University, where they attended from 2010 to 2012. Ashley also pursued studies in Zoology/Animal Biology at the University of Oklahoma, from 2004 to 2007.

In addition to their degrees, Ashley holds several certifications. Ashley obtained a Mental Health First Aid- Adult certification from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing in June 2023. In 2022, they completed various courses, including "Power BI: Dashboards for Beginners," "The Data Science of Government and Political Science, with Barton Poulson," "The Data Science of Nonprofit Service Organizations, with Barton Poulson," and "Using Power BI with Excel," all through LinkedIn. Furthermore, they obtained a certification in "Leading without Formal Authority" from LinkedIn in August 2021. Ashley also has teaching certifications from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, including a Foundational Teaching Certificate from their Scholarship and Teaching Excellence Program (obtained in May 2021) and a Teaching Certificate from the Preparing Future Faculty program (obtained in May 2018). Additionally, they completed a 200 hour Registered Yoga Training (RYT) certification through Yoga Alliance in January 2018.
