Darrell Berntsen

Darrell Berntsen has served on the Board of Directors since 2019. Darrell resides in Anchorage, Alaska, and works as a Principal for the Anchorage School District. Darrell has worked for the Anchorage School District in various capacities since 2001. Prior to that, he taught for one year in Old Harbor. Darrell worked previously as a Commercial Fisherman, Small Business Owner, and Commercial Fishing Boat Captain. Darrell graduated from Old Harbor High School and the University of Alaska Anchorage with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. He also earned his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.

He has served on various boards such as the Native Advisory Board, Koniag Shareholders Committee, and the Indian Education Board. He is currently the principal of the first Alaska Native Language Immersion Program offered in the Anchorage School District. He has received awards such as Golden Key Honor Society, and National Dean’s List and was an Alaska High School Wrestling Champion and Outstanding Wrestler for the State of Alaska.
