Cynthia Ponera

Cynthia Ponera has a diverse range of work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Cynthia'smost recent position was as the Regional Sales Director - East Africa at Onafriq, where they began in July 2022. Prior to that, they worked at WorldRemit from 2018 to 2022, starting as the Country Director and later taking on the role of Head of East Africa.

Before their time at WorldRemit, Cynthia held various positions at NBC Limited from 2012 to 2018, including Head of Digital & Alternative Channels and Acting Head of Digital & Alternative Channels. Cynthia also worked as a Consultant in Channel Performance, Digital & Alternative Channels during that time.

Earlier in their career, Cynthia served as the Manager of Broadband Acquisition at ZANZIBAR Telecom Ltd. and as the Enterprise & Data Services Manager at Zantel. Cynthia also worked as the Manager of Marketing & Corporate Affairs at Afsat Communications and as a Marketing Coordinator at Communications (T) Ltd.

Cynthia's career started with internships at Tanzania Gatsby Trust and Oryx Oil Co. Ltd., where they gained experience in database management and business case analysis. Overall, Cynthia has built a strong background in sales, marketing, and digital channels across a variety of industries.

Cynthia Ponera completed their Master's of Business Leadership degree in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika in the years 2015 to 2019. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Information Systems from Rhodes University from 2001 to 2005. In 1999 to 2000, they acquired a Matriculation degree from St. Dominics Academy in South Africa, focusing on science, mathematics, biology, geography, English, and speech & drama. Before their time in South Africa, they attended Aga Khan Mzizima Secondary School in Tanzania from 1995 to 1998, where they received an Ordinary Level Certificate and studied various subjects including mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, English, geography, Kiswahili, accounting, and civics.
