Miguel R Santos, PhD, PCQI has extensive work experience in the food industry. Miguel R currently serves as the Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance at Once Upon a Farm, where they are responsible for ensuring food safety and quality standards. Prior to that, they were the Principal Consultant and Owner of Verdian Consulting LLC. Miguel R also served as an Advisory Board Member in the Biological Systems Engineering Department at UC Davis. Miguel has held various roles at Juicero, including Director of Food Safety/QA Commercialization and Director of Product Development. Miguel R played a pivotal role in implementing food safety and quality systems, vetting suppliers, and developing new products. Earlier in their career, Miguel worked as a Senior Process Engineer at Ocean Spray Cranberries and as a Post-harvest R&D Manager at POM Wonderful. Miguel R also gained research experience at the University of California, Davis and worked as an Assistant Project Engineer at Larry Walker Associates. Miguel's expertise extends to membrane technology and water management, as demonstrated during their tenure as a Research Specialist at CIFAR - California Institute of Food and Ag Research.
Miguel R Santos, PhD, PCQI earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Food Engineering from Escola Superior de Biotecnologia in 1993. Miguel R then went on to obtain their Master of Science degree in Food Engineering from the University of California, Davis in 1996. Miguel later completed their education with a Ph.D. in Food Engineering from the University of California, Davis in 2005. In addition to their academic achievements, Miguel has obtained certifications in Preventive Controls for Human Foods from the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) in 2018 and as an FSMA Produce Rule Grower Trainer from the Produce Safety Alliance in 2017.
