Dr. Alan Liss has over 35 years of experience in the areas of vaccine, biologics and pharmaceutical product development and manufacturing. Alan has held a variety of industry and academic appointments, authored over 60 scientific publications and presented lectures nationally and internationally. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1969, with an academic concentration in the area of Radiation Biology. Alan received his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1974.
Alan retired from US FDA in 2016 where he directed the Public Health and Security Action Team (Action Team) Program within the Office of the Commissioner. The Action Team format enhanced the FDA approval process for medical countermeasure (MCM) candidates. Prior to joining FDA, Alan’s work on furthering the development of medical countermeasures included his helping stand-up the Regulatory and Quality Affairs Division of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) under the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the Department of Health and Human Services.
