Dereje Getahun

Dereje Getahun has a diverse work experience spanning several roles and industries. Dereje recently worked as a Software Engineer at OneGlobe LLC on the U.S. FEMA Grants management modernization project. Prior to that, they served as a Cloud Software Engineer at The College Board, where they built and maintained UI features with React, Redux, and Jest, as well as backend services with AWS lambda, SQL, Node, and Jest. Dereje also maintained and troubleshooted CI/CD pipelines with AWS code commit and deploy. Before working at The College Board, Dereje was self-employed as a Full Stack Web Developer, where they built full stack progressive web apps using MongoDB, Express, React, and Node. Dereje implemented local and third-party authentication with Passport and collaborated with remote team members using git workflow. Additionally, Dereje gained extensive experience as a Foreign Exchange Trader at Maverick Trading, where they traded foreign exchange for eight years. Dereje also worked as a Manufacturing Engineer and Die Development Engineer at Keihin Indiana Precision Technology, where they held a range of responsibilities from November 1999 to January 2007.

Dereje Getahun received a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, Indianapolis, IN in 1998. Dereje then pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution, completing it in 2005. In 2017, Getahun obtained a Full Stack Development Certification from freeCodeCamp. Dereje also holds additional certifications including a Back End Development Certificate, obtained in November 2017, a Data Visualization Certificate, obtained in August 2017, and a Front End Development Certificate, obtained in June 2017.
