In 2002, Fergal enrolled at the University of Galway for a Higher Diploma in Systems Analysis, which they completed in 2003. Fergal then took a break from formal education before returning in 2008 to IACT, where they pursued a Diploma in Web Design and completed it in 2009.

Apart from their formal education, Fergal also obtained a certification as a Certified Scrum Master from the Scrum Alliance in January 2017. This additional certification underscores their commitment to professional development and expertise in agile project management methodologies.
