David Biss

Optical Engineering Manager at Optikos Corporation

David Biss has extensive work experience in the field of optical engineering and research. David is currently employed at Optikos Corporation as the Optical Engineering Manager since March 2022, where they previously held the position of Principal Optical Engineer from September 2011 to March 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Physical Sciences Inc. as a Principal Scientist from June 2010 to September 2011, focusing on the development and implementation of a compact adaptive optics line scanning laser ophthalmoscope.

David also worked at Bodkin Design and Engineering, LLC as an Optical Engineer/Physicist from July 2008 to June 2010. During this time, their work involved high-resolution spectroscopy and imaging polarimetry research projects, as well as grant writing for securing SBIR funding.

Before joining Bodkin Design and Engineering, LLC, David worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine from September 2007 to June 2008, where they contributed to adaptive optic scanning laser ophthalmoscope projects and developed in vivo confocal and multiphoton microscopy techniques.

Prior to that, David worked as a Research Fellow at the Schepens Eye Research Institute from April 2005 to August 2007. Here, they constructed a wavefront sensing adaptive optic scanning laser ophthalmoscope for imaging the mouse retina.

David began their career as a Graduate Student at the University of Rochester in September 1999, where they conducted research on inhomogeneously polarized beams and their applications in harmonic generation and confocal imaging.

David Biss received their Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics from Clarkson University, where they studied from 1995 to 1999. David then pursued further studies at the University of Rochester, where they completed their Ph.D. in Optics from 1999 to 2005.
