Derek Swan

Derek Swan has a strong background in research and development, with a focus on technology and product development. Derek started their career as a Research Associate at Edinburgh Napier University in 1999, where they worked until 2001. In 2002, they joined Optos as an R&D Manager, and later became the Director of New Product Development. Derek then progressed to Senior Research Director and Vice President of Research, and currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer at Optos. Additionally, in 2002, Swan briefly worked as a Development Engineer at Kymata.

Derek Swan completed their primary and secondary education at Drummond High from 1987 to 1993. Derek then pursued higher education at the University of St Andrews where they received a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honors degree in Laser Physics from 1993 to 1997. Following that, they enrolled at Heriot-Watt University for the period of 1997 to 1998 to complete their Master of Science (MSc) in Optoelectronics & Laser Devices.
