Sebastian Mathews has held a variety of roles in the business world since 2008. Sebastian began their career as a Principal in Strategic Finance at Navigant Consulting (Pty) Ltd. In 2010, they became a Country Associate at the Coady International Institute, and in 2011 they were an Adjunct Lecturer at The Open University Business School and an Adjunct Instructor at GIBS Business School (Gordon Institute of Business Science). From 2014 to 2015, they were a Strategy & Finance Director at Axum Financial, a Strategy Program Manager at the Port of Seattle, and a Senior Manager (Director level) at Grant Thornton LLP. In 2017, they were a Senior Director, Economic Empowerment at World Vision and in 2018 they became a Founding Board Director, Chair: Finance, Audit, Risk, Campaign Manager, and President: US Chapter at the Global EverGreening Alliance. Currently, Sebastian is the Managing Director at Oratium, where they work to help people communicate effectively, especially in the virtual world.

Sebastian Mathews has a diverse educational background. Sebastian obtained an MBA from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University in Business Administration and Management, General. Sebastian also has a Master's degree in International Business from Georgia State University - J. Mack Robinson College of Business. Additionally, they hold a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) Honors in Finance from the University of the Witwatersrand and a BSc in Elec Engineering from the same university. Sebastian also has an Associate Lecturer in Strategy course from The Open University. In addition to their formal education, Sebastian Mathews has two certifications: a Financial Modelling & Valuation Analyst from Corporate Finance Institute\u00ae (CFI) obtained in August 2020, and a Data Analytics certification from eCornell obtained in April 2018.
